Education is an essential springboard for farming communities all around the world, whether that means attending school to learn the basics of reading and writing or getting the technical and vocational training needed to get on later in life. Access to education helps to prevent child labour in food supply chains, empowers farming families to develop the knowledge and skills they need to achieve greater financial security and independence, and contributes to thriving local communities.
As part of Sustainability Development Goal 4, the United Nations wants all boys and girls to have access to an equitable, inclusive, and quality education by 2030 and it wants all adults to have access to lifelong learning too, which includes technical and vocational education. However, in many of the remote and rural communities where food is grown, this can be out of reach for many families. That might be because local infrastructure is poor, and their community has no school nearby or because parents cannot provide the documents or school kit their children need to enrol.
AtSource+ allows customers to track education support provided in the farming communities that supply them, as well as the impact those interventions are having on the ground. It measures key metrics including:
Percentage of school aged children attending school
Number of beneficiaries with access to education support, including literacy classes, and sponsored teaching activities
Number of beneficiaries from school infrastructure and equipment, including construction of classrooms, libraries and more
Number of beneficiaries with education services, such as support for birth certificates and school transport

Supporting social investments in communities is not only better for the farmers and their families, it’s better for customers. A great example is the primary school built in Jeannotkro, South Central Côte d’Ivoire.
